Have you seen someone with a Semicolon tattoo?
My Story Isn
Or a drawing of a semicolon on their wrist?
More Semi Colons!
This is what it’s all about.
Amy Bleul founded Project Semicolon in 2013 in tribute to her late father, who committed suicide.
She wanted to use a symbol to represent the difficulties that comes with mental health issues and raise awareness of the support that is out there from mental health professionals and from people who have recovered from depression themselves.
A semicolon is used when an author could've chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.
Amy Bleul
In the case of these tattoos, the semicolon is a physical representation of someone’s personal strength in the face of their internal struggle.
Amy’s vision of the project is to inspire hope and spread the word that there's always a reason to go on living.
